Over the past few weeks, many colleges in South Florida have canceled Spring Break for 2021. These include Florida International University, the University of Miami, the University of Florida, and Florida State University.

The colleges want to avoid coronavirus cases increasing with students going on vacations during spring break. They especially want to limit out-of-state people coming to Miami because of its heavy popularity as a vacation spot for spring break.
Instead, UM and UF will be extending winter break by a week.
However, many students are not happy with the decision.
Berlina Francois, a senior majoring in computer science at FIU, says that the cancelation is a shame for students who just started college at FIU this year.

She added that “unless I check the FIU website I’m not aware of what’s going on. I didn’t even know they had cancelled spring break, since it’s not on their website yet.”
Francois says that communication has been difficult with the college being closed.
As for Barry, there have been no news yet, but The Buccaneer will report any announcements as soon as they are released.
