BARRY'S BEST BITES

Updated: Nov 11, 2025

By Alexandra Bello & Lizbeth Viera

While Barry University has plenty of dining options on campus, sometimes students crave something new. Whether it’s a late-night craving or a weekend meal with friends, many often turn to food delivery apps like DoorDash or Uber Eats. The 111th

Street gate entrance to Barry University has seen its fair share of takeout

bags and pizza box deliveries, but for some students, the constant deliveries

can get repetitive and expensive. This is when exploring the neighborhood

and what food spots they have to offer becomes the best alternative. Just

beyond the campus gates, there are plenty of delicious, family-owned, local eateries that can satisfy those cravings without hurting your pockets.

Pizza Fiore Miami Shores

9540 NE 2nd Ave, Miami Shores, FL 33138

Just a few minutes from campus, Pizza Fiore has been a go-to for Barry Students who are craving an affordable Italian meal. Pizza Fiore is known for its large pizza slices and

great service. This restaurant has strong ties to the Barry community, offering hefty discounts to students and faculty that keep them coming back. One customer, Keva, shared on a Google review “Great food! The portions are great, and the waitress/waiter are always pleasant. They also give Barry University faculty, staff and students a discount.”

include a meal with a free soft drink and garlic rolls, making this spot a convenient and budget-friendly option for hungry college students.

Pierre’s Caribbean Cuisine

11105 NW 7th Ave, Miami, FL 33168

Another Barry favorite, just a short drive from campus, is Pierre’s Caribbean Cuisine, bringing you a taste of island comfort food. Known for their flavorful and unique dishes like jerk chicken, oxtail, and seafood plates, this spot is a relaxed dining setting with friendly staff. Pierre’s Caribbean Cuisine hosts an awesome happy hour every weekday from 4 to 8 p.m., with discounted appetizers that are perfect for

students looking to treat themselves without overspending. The comforting atmosphere and delicious Caribbean flavors make Pierre’s the perfect spot for students to enjoy a great meal with greater company.

Just a few minutes from Barry is Café Ruyi, this hidden gem has affordable and delicious Chinese food. This takeout restaurant is known for its quick service and generous portion sizes. You can find classic dishes like fried rice, lo mein, egg rolls, honey chicken, and more! “Café Ruyi is a great restaurant to get a bang for your buck, amazing portions, and super flavorful!” said Jaquan Leslie, a senior criminology major at Barry. Most of the entrees at Café Ruyi are no more than $12, which makes it a

great option for students who want more food for less.

The Citadel

8300 NE 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33138

For those students who can’t decide on where to eat, The Citadel is the perfect spot. Just a short drive from campus is the Little River neighborhood, where you can find this food hall with dozens of food vendors all in one spot. You can find everything

from burgers, pizza, sushi, pho, desserts, Mexican food, and much more. This article made me hungry! I wish I could've had a sample platter from each place as I was reading about them. I knew about Pizza Fiore and The Citadel, but the other 4 were new to me. It's very helpful to get information about viable and convenient restaurant options in the area. It's easy to wrongly think that there's nothing around here. I will add these to my list; you picked a nice variety. My stomach and I thank you!
