The spring semester has started! And with it, the multifaceted fine arts department brings new works, events, and art to life! Barry’s fine arts department, consisting of graphic design, studio art, photography, theatre, music, and dance, is hosting a variety of events, plays, and showcases that students should consider adding to their spring calendars.
In the theatre sector, their big spring production, “Give a Boy a Gun,” directed by theatre professor Elena Maria Garcia, will be held from Feb. 25 –28 at the Broad Theatre. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a 7 p.m. start.
The story follows a young man named Brenden, played by theatre major Jorge Arria, who goes through various troubles in middle and high school. Supporting actor D’Andre Jamieson said people should come see this play because it “brings awareness to the consequences of lifelong bullying.”

Other events going on in the theatre department include “The Vagina Monologues,” a student-produced play, which will be held on Feb.13 at 7 p.m. in the Pelican Black Box Theatre. There will also be a stage reading series directed by theatre professor Stephen Kaiser in the Pelican Black Box Theatre on March 5 at 7 p.m.
Finally, on March 19 and 20, “Under Pressure” will hit the Pelican Black Box Theatre Stage at 7 p.m. This production will follow four different directors, directing four separate plays, with only four days to complete it.
Fire it up for the fine arts club Talent and Teams, also known as TNT! They will be hosting a plethora of fun events that all students are welcome to enjoy. First up is their Open Mic Night on Feb. 20, from 6-8 p.m. in Fine Arts 149. Then, on March 26, they will be hosting a Stage Combat Workshop from 4-6 p.m. The location has not yet been determined.
Finally, in April, the club will be hosting their annual Field Day on April 30 from 4-6 p.m., in the Fine Arts Quadrangle. You do not have to be a part of the club to participate in any of these events. For more information, follow their Instagram page @barrytntclub.
Oh, snap! The Photography Department will be hosting its MFA Graduate Exhibition Opening in the Andrew Gato Gallery in Thompson Hall from Feb. 13 to March 20. Photography, in collaboration with studio arts, will be having the Juried Show Exhibition Opening from March 27 to April 24 in the Andrew Gato Gallery. There will also be a reception held on April 8 in the Gato, from 5:30- 7:30 p.m.
Lastly, the Spring 2026 Senior Exhibition Opening is hosted from May 1- Sept. 11 in the Gato gallery. The reception will be held May 6 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Turn it up! It’s the music department! On March 19 at 7 p.m., the music department will be hosting a Jazz Showcase in the Andrew Gato Gallery. Later in the semester, the department will have a music showcase on April 26 in the Cor Jesu Chapel, starting at 4 p.m.
Last but certainly not least, get ready to shake it for the Dance Department with their spring show, “Grounded!” Assistant Artistic Director Zaria Whyte-Davis says, “We chose this title because it represents staying rooted in who we are and connected to our community.” The show will be held in the Broad Theatre April 23-24 at 7:30 p.m.
The Fine Arts Department offers students activities almost every week in February, March and April. If you enjoy a good play, listening to singing, or watching dance performances, these events are the perfect way to fill your schedule. You can explore your artistic side while supporting your fellow students.

Good job!
