STUDENTS ARE FINDING THEIR PATHWAY TO SUCCESS

Want some advice to steer your career in the right direction?

The Career and Leadership Conference is guiding students toward success on Oct. 29. From 5 to 8:30 p.m., the Broad Auditorium, Andreas 111–112, Webinar Graham Hall, and Kotska and Gato Gallery will all come alive under this year’s theme: Pathways to Purpose. Hosted by the Career and Experiential Learning Department, this event will give students the chance to engage with community leaders.

“I hope the students gain inspiration, drive and motivation. I hope they see themselves in some of these speakers that we are bringing, as well as see themselves going out into the community and doing work for the community,” said Antoinett Brown, the associate director for experiential learning.

The event will begin with a panel that features speakers such as Dr. Steve Gallon III from District 1 School Board Member for Miami-Dade County Public Schools; Dr. James Bush III, a member of Florida Commission on Ethics; and Courtney Guzman, the senior vice president at Bank of America.

Sessions

Beyond the Game: Business, Leadership, and Opportunities in Sports will focus on careers in sports management, business strategy and entrepreneurship. Clara Stroud Vasquez, the chief of culture and inclusion at Miami HEAT, will lead this session.

Inside the White Coat: Navigating Medicine, Leadership, and Service will talk about the realities of the medical field, how to become a leader as a health care professional and how to build resilience. This session will be led by Dr. Shane Williams, the D.O assistant professor of Family Medicine Nova Southeastern University Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine.

From the Classroom to the Courtroom: Building a Career in Law and Justice will feature a conversation on how to prepare for law school, the importance of integrity in justice and a personal story from County Court Judge at Miami-Dade County, Lizzet Martinez’s journey in law. Leading with Purpose: Careers in Nonprofits, Service, and Community Impact will be led by the Senior Vice President of United Way Miami, Paola Hernandez, who will speak about leadership in nonprofit organizations, social good and community development.

The conference will conclude with a tabling from non-profit organizations that will provide service learning opportunities for students.
