Barry University Law Professor Arrested On Alleged Possession Of Child Sexual Abuse Material

Glen-Peter Ahlers, a law professor at Barry University and Interim Associate Dean for Information Services, was arrested on 50 counts of alleged possession child sexual abuse material on Feb. 18, according to prosecutors in Orange County, Florida.

Ahlers was held at Orange County Jail with a bond of $100,000 according to Orlando Sentinel.


Court records show surety bonds were filed for the charges. As of Feb. 27, he does not appear in the county jail’s online inmate database.


According to an arrest warrant affidavit filed in the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court, the 70-year-old was stopped at a traffic light on Feb. 3 where authorities served him search warrants for his home and office of the university.


They seized multiple electronic devices, including cellphone, computers and external hard drives.


Shortly after, Barry University’s spokesperson, Katherine Doble, according to the the Orlando Sentinel stated, “The law school had placed Ahlers on administrative leave "pending further review" and was cooperating with law enforcement.”


According to the Orlando Sentinel, Ahlers appeared in court for the first time on Feb. 19, where the judge ruled that, if released, he must avoid all contact with children, is banned from using the internet, cannot hold a passport and is prohibited from entering the university.


His next hearing date has not been disclosed.
